So the great July 4th is upon us. The day the United States Of America became the United States of America. What do you think of when someone says America? Democracy? Freedom? The statue of liberty? Patriotism? All that good junk?
I love this country as much as the next guy but to act like we're perfect is a down right joke. Democracy is a big one. Yeah we have such a great democracy as we step on every other country and bully anyone who wants to be "different" then us. Look at the middle east for an example. If you go there you wont see a bunch of terrorists you will see people just like you and I who want a better life, their kids to be educated, a good job and a safe home. But We look at every person with a turban as a damn terrorist.
Freedom? Oh yeah so damn free. Our government controls each and every one of us like little pawns on a chess board. They make the laws and we have to follow them. Isn't that the same as someone who lives in a communist country? The "ruler" makes the laws and they follow them. And what happens if we break a law? We are punished to the fullest extent of the "law". So tell me again how our country is free?
The Statue of Liberty? Well lets see here, have you ever gone to New York? They are the rudest people on the planet and would rather spit at you then say hi. Not to mention The Statue wasn't even made by Americans it's freaking French! What a symbol of America.
Patriotism? Yeah now that is a funny one! Can you tell me one thing you have done today to help your country? How about one thing you did to help a fellow American? Yeah I thought so. The old saying help thy neighbor has gone out the window, we are a bunch of self absorbed blobs. You probably don't even know who your own Senator, Governor, or Mayor is lol. This word became popular after the 9-11 attacks when the country was act as a country instead of being so self absorbed that you wouldn't notice if your own neighbor of 20 years moved. But now we have gone right back to the land of over indulgent, slobby, inconsiderate, mean people.
Now don't get me wrong here I love my country I was born and raised here and I am raising my family here. But we are so damn self absorbed that we look past the bad in ourselves and point fingers at everyone else. We're the land of the Christian philosophy you can do bad as long as you apologize to God your a good person. You don't have to apologize to the person you wronged just to God and your good. And man have we taken that phrase to heart! It's okay for us to blow up countries but if they do it to us they are DEVILS! Why is that? Have we lost our way somewhere along the line as a whole? Why are we great but others are horrible? Unless they are on our side that is.
I look at my country as a whole. What I see is a messed up bunch of people trying desperately to hold onto the notion that they are the good ones and others are bad. I don't like this way of thinking and sadly it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. I want my son to grow up and not look at someone from another country as a foreigner but as a person. We're all from one planet why do we have to segregate ourselves so much? In this world everyone is good and bad but we should come together as one and not only when we are against another but always. We need to hold onto core values and stop acting like our shit doesn't stink because it does. If we do wrong apologize to who we hurt not to "God". Let's come together as one country, one world and stop hating others because they aren't from here, or have different beliefs.
Let's celebrate being alive and able to change and let's really try to accept others into our country separated by invisible lines on this holiday. Be safe and remember that what this country really was founded on was change . Let's implement some of that on ourselves.
