I absolutely HATE holidays!!!!!
Seriously people are retarded. If your going away for vacation and you have a pet and if you don't plan on where they are going until the last minute which I consider the week of your vacation then guess what you are irresponsible!!! Especially if you wait til the day you are leaving or the day before. Seriously your lack of planning does NOT constitute a "emergency" for me! And if you are rude to me because I tell you I'm sorry we're booked over a major holiday and I'm trying to give you options then guess what your an ASS.
It is not MY job to cater to your lack of planning. It's not MY job to accommodate you when you are rude. It's not MY job to give you options when you have less then 24 hours til you leave. It's not MY job to take your responsibilities on. You want to know what MY job is? To care for animals in a professional, personable, caring, loving way. I am not your mother, your friend, an assistant, a housekeeper, and I sure as hell ain't your slave. I'm not obligated to always be open just for you. What is funny about all of this is that it is NEVER my regulars that do this to me. My clients are the best in the world, they respect me and don't come at me the day before they leave saying I need you to do this or that. It is always new people who call me the day of or before, when I have never met them or their pets.
So when you call me the day before you leave this is what happens....
Say your calling around at 3:00pm to find a sitter for the next day. I receive the call at 3:15pm after you have been calling every kennel, vet, and sitter in the area. You tell me you need boarding for your dog who is "nice" and "potty trained". Now I take the call while I am busy maybe I'm in my car driving to a sit or feeding and walking dogs. Now my schedule is on my desk so I would have to be right in front of it to tell you if I am available. So I say yes I can take your dog or sit your dog. Then I may have to call you back to make an appointment to meet with you within the next 12 hours. So I get done with my work I now have to drive or walk back to my home look at my schedule and figure out how I can meet with you to give you the paperwork and actually meet the animal I will be caring for.
Now if you are boarding I have to disrupt all the other dogs already here so that you can come in without being jumped on and without a dog running out because no one can close a door. So I not only have to make time for the meeting but now I may have to disrupt the dogs walking schedule, feeding schedule or their nap. Now you get there and the dogs are all hyped up because they heard you come to the door so I have to either gate them or put them in different rooms so they don't get hurt or make a run for it. What most don't understand is that a new dog coming into a pack is stressful on all dogs and you have to introduce them slowly when all are calm. So we go threw the meeting then you leave. I then have to calm all the dogs down before I have to start a sit or a walk or do rounds of feedings.
Okay so maybe you want sitting in your home. So you call and I now have to figure a way to drive to your home while not disrupting other appointments I have already had scheduled. So I then have to have my partner stay with our boarders and do their routines or if your really creepy or live in a bad area I then have to disrupt the dogs and my partner by having him come with me for safety. I then drive to your home on your schedule because not only are you leaving tomorrow but your schedule is also sooo booked. Well I get there and you have me for about a half hour. I then leave and have to rush now to another appointment or a sit and pray I'm not late.
So please think before you inconvenience someone else. Yes we are a service company but would you call your cable company or your electrician and say I need a meeting TODAY and I need the work done tomorrow or even TODAY? NO!!! Because they would laugh in your face! Not to mention if you were lucky enough to get a appointment you would then be charged double. But I don't even charge for meeting with you, and boy would you have a fit if I told you well since you gave us no notice and we are providing this service to you on your terms we are now charging you double. But we don't so please be nice to us and understand that if you give us no notice we have to move ours, our clients, and the pets schedules around to accommodate YOU.
